- Medieval

- Acronym

- American
Writers is the companion site to CSPAN's television series. It includes
lessons and activities to supplement its shows.
- Based
on the Book, from Mid-Continent Public Library, allows look up by title
of book or title of movie to find out what book a movie was based on and whether
a book has been made into a movie.
- Bibliomania's
Study Guides include classical literature and contemporary literature
from Virgil's Aeneid to 2001: A Space Odyssey. To access them, click on the
link to Study Guides on the top of Bibliomania's page. It is a little difficult
to navigate, but worth the effort.
- Classic
Reader includes the text of many popular high school reads including "The
Most Dangerous Game," a short story by Richard Connell.
- English
Study Guides for popular high school reading materials provided by Bellmore-Merrick
central High's 11th grade English classes. This is intended to assist in preparation
for the Regents examination.
- The
English Server
- Humanities
Department, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh has original author sheets
and useful bibliographies.
- The
Internet Public Library's Online Literary Criticism provides access to
online literary criticism.
- The
Invisible Library "is a collection of books that only appear in other
books. Within the library's catalog you will find imaginary books, pseudobiblia,
artifictions, fabled tomes, libris phantastica, and all manner of books unwritten,
unread, unpublished, and unfound."
- Knowledge
Rush: "Great Works [of literature] for free."
- New
York Times Book Review back to 1988 full text online requires registration,
but is free.
- Online
Books Page provides an index to the texts of books available on the Internet.
These are texts whose copyrights have run out, so they are in the public domain.
- Pilot-Search
is a search engine that covers literature sites only, providing more relevant
search results.
- Pink
Monkey has online literature guides.
- Perseus
Digital Library is an impressive collection of the full text of texts
from classical times (Greco-Roman) to the Renaissance.
- The
Pulitzer Prize lists winners back to and including 1995 in all categories
- SparkNotes.com's
literature guides outline many title read in high school.

- BBC
Languages provides extensive online foreign language lessons and guides.
Covers French, Spanish, German, Italian, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Greek,
as well as some others.
- Calliope:
Muse of Eloquence explores English words derived from Classical Mythology.
Take quizzes or just explore.
- Casa
de Joanna features links to French and Spanish sites
- Common
Errors in English. This site accompanies a much more extensive book. Check
both out for proper word usage.
- Dictionary.com
searches many word databases including the 1913 version of Webster's Revised
Unabridged Dictionary. For more recent lingo, other sources are used.
- Dictionary
of Phrase and Fable is provided by Bibliomania. It is the searchable full
text of the 1894 publication by E. Cobham Brewer.
- HotBraille.com
will send a letter in braille to a blind person. Just type in the text
and it is sent for free! This site also provides other information relating
to blindness and Louis Braille.
- Learning
English from the BBC includes words used in the news, news stories, quizzes
and more.
- ESL
Cyber Listening Lab is a multimedia site for those seeking to learn the
English language.
- Ethnologue
Languages of the World is an online reference tool cataloging and offering
information on all of the world's 6,912 known living languages.

Dictionary is an online tool providing word origin, meaning, and history.
- Foreign
Language Homework Helper from Discovery School.
- The
Reading Matrix contains resources for ESL students.
- Literacy
