Jervis Public Library Children’s Room presents
Catch the Reading Bug!
2008 Summer Reading Challenge
Registration begins Monday, June 23, and will continue throughout the summer. Fill out the bottom portion of this form and turn in to the Children’s Room desk. You will receive a Summer Reading packet that includes a calendar. Each day you should mark the time spent reading on the calendar.
Reporting begins Monday, July 7 and continues for six weeks as follows:
Week 1: July 7 – July 11
Week 2: July 14 – July 18
Week 3: July 21 – July 25
Week 4: July 28 – August 1
Week 5: August 4 – August 8
Week 6: August 11 – August 15
Reporting may be done at any time during the library’s open hours. To report, bring your reading calendar to the desk in the Children’s Room. Miss Lorie, or another librarian or assistant, will make note of how much time you spent reading. If you wish to make a poster or write a book review or report about one of your books, you may do so. Just turn it in at the Children’s Room desk when you report your time. You will then receive a prize. All artwork will be displayed in the Children’s Room through the summer. When you have read for 8 hours, you will receive an extra special prize.
Pre-readers (birth through reading age) are welcome and encouraged to join, too! Caregivers will be given a calendar and should mark all reading time. Then bring the child and the calendar to the Children's Room once a week as in the above reporting instructions.
The materials you report may include any books (fiction or non-fiction), audio books, comic books, graphic novels, and magazines. All of your time spent reading (or being read to) counts!

Last summer Miss Lorie set the challenge at 200,000 minutes, and the kids read past that and more.  This summer, let’s set a new record!  And, Miss Lorie will make it interesting:

If the kids in the Summer Reading Club read (or are read to) for 300,000 minutes, Miss Lorie will dye her hair electric blue with permanent color in time for the Summer Reading Challenge final celebration!

Final Celebration: We will have a party for all Summer Reading participants on Wednesday, August 20, at 2:30pm on the Library Lawn (or in the Children’s Room if it rains). There will be refreshments and prizes for everyone who takes part. If the challenge has been met, Miss Lorie will be there with electric blue hair!
