Registration begins Monday, June 21, and will continue throughout the summer. Fill out the bottom portion of this form and turn in to the Children’s Room desk. You will receive a Summer Reading packet that includes a calendar. Each day you should mark the time spent reading (or being read to) on the calendar.
Reporting begins Monday, July 6 and continues for six weeks as follows:
Week 1: July 6 – July 9
Week 2: July 12 – July 16
Week 3: July 19 – July 23
Week 4: July 26 – July 30
Week 5: August 2 – August 6
Week 6: August 9 – August 13
Reporting may be done at any time during the library’s open hours. To report, bring your reading calendar to the desk in the Children’s Room. Miss Lorie, or another librarian or assistant, will make note of how much time you spent reading. If you wish to make a poster or write a book review or report about one of your books, you may do so. Just turn it in at the Children’s Room desk when you report your time. You will then receive a small prize. All artwork will be displayed in the Children’s Room through the summer.
Pre-readers (birth through reading age) are welcome and encouraged to join, too! Caregivers will be given a calendar and should mark all reading time. Then bring the child and the calendar to the Children's Room once a week as in the above reporting instructions.
If you miss a week for any reason, just keep marking your calendar! When you do bring it in your time will all be added up and will count. ALL READING TIME COUNTS!
The materials you report may include any books (fiction or non-fiction), audio books, comic books, graphic novels, and magazines (the cereal box at breakfast….). All of your time spent reading (or being read to) counts!
This summer, let’s set a new record! And, Miss Lorie will make it fun again:
If the kids in the Summer Reading Club read (or are read to) for 333,000 minutes, everyone who takes part will have a chance to DUNK MISS LORIE at the Summer Reading Challenge final celebration!!
Final Celebration: We will have a party for all Summer Reading participants on Wednesday, August 18, at 1:30pm on the Library Lawn (or in the Children’s Room if it rains). There will be refreshments and prizes for everyone who takes part. If the challenge has been met, Miss Lorie will be there, ready to be dunked!
